What you can do

  • Talk by textTalk to the people around you, shout to the whole town, whisper to one person, or act something out with an emote.
  • Talk by voicePush to talk. Windows and browser players hear each other, and voice goes through the server, so nobody sees your address.
  • Private roomsYour own copy of the town for a group of friends, with an optional password. Starred official rooms are picked by the admins.
  • Build your own townThe Map Editor builds a whole town in your browser: buildings, forests, mazes, stairs, skies and a town map. Publish it and make a room.
  • Go upstairsTowns made in the editor can have stairs, with rooms and furniture on the floors above.
  • High quality graphicsSharper textures and characters at your screen's full resolution, or the original 1996 look. Your choice, in the View menu.
  • Three layoutsStandard, Big view with a larger 3D view, or the 1996 classic window. Switch any time from the View menu.
  • Boards and mailPost on the message boards around town, and send mail to players with a registered name.
  • Play anywhereWindows, Linux, any browser, phones and tablets. The original 1996 program is still included and can be picked in the launcher.

The Map Editor

Build a TalkWorld town of your own, right in your browser. Drag out a whole building with walls, a floor and a door, drop in ready-made houses, a pub, a forest or a hedge maze, paint the ground, add furniture and stairs, pick a sky, and walk around it exactly as players will see it.

When it's ready, publish it with a free registered name and make a room for your friends. It uses the game's own pictures, so it looks like it has always been part of TalkWorld.

Good to know

  • The Help button inside the editor lists every tool, key and mouse action.
  • Your map saves itself in your browser as you work, and you can export it as a .zip file.
  • Maps can be up to 128 by 128 squares, with up to three floors.
  • Rooms with custom maps open in the new game window or the browser. The 1996 program only has the original town.
